Yarm School Girls-U12A vs  Queen Marys
On: Wednesday, 22 Nov 2017
Venue: at Home

This was another top quality performance from this team, with a number of players making a seamless step up from the B team. We started the game on the front foot, looking confident in possession. Our early chances came from wide areas, with Miriam Akowuah attacking with pace and power down the right wing, however her crosses into the box were well dealt with by the Queen Marys defence. We got the breakthrough midway through the first half thanks to a wonderful bit of play in midfield from India Dunkin to set up Miriam, who unleashed an unstoppable shot into the bottom corner. For the remainder of the first half we continued to be the dominant team, with India controlling the tempo of the game. Our defensive trio of Rosie Faulkner, Piya Nag and Abbi MacGregor had very little to do in the first half and Morven Hawthorne was a spectator in goal.

Our start to the second half was poor; our intensity had dropped considerably and we were sloppy in possession. Queen Marys made us pay for our slow start after a loss in concentration at the back provided them with a one-on-one chance against Morven, which they finished well to make the score 1-1. This seemed to wake us up again and our play started to match the intensity of the first half. We had fresh legs in attack and Maisy Bailey set the tone with her non-stop running on the left wing. After a quiet first half by her standards, Lily Harte started to cause problems for the Queen Marys defence. Her hold up play was fantastic and it brought other players into the game. Her hard work paid off in the end, as her intelligent positioning meant she found space in the D to finish off a great team move to make the score 2-1 and continue her incredible goal scoring form. We had chances to extend our lead through a number of short corners but their goalkeeper made some great saves to keep the scoreline at 2-1. Overall a superb performance from the team, with a number of girls staking a claim for more A team appearances in the remaining matches, and North East Tournament that are to come this term.
