Match Report
Yarm School 2nd XI vs  Ampleforth
On: Wednesday, 08 Nov 2017
Venue: at Home

Although this was a good performance from the girls, it wasn't enough to continue their great run of results and as a result lost a match for the first time since September. Ampleforth started the game as the stronger side and 5 minutes into the game they made their good start count by weaving their way into the D and squeezing the ball in at the near post to take a 1-0 lead. This woke our girls up and we started to look much more dangerous in attack. We got the equaliser fairly quickly thanks to a wonderful reverse finish from Stella Dooris. The game was competitive from this point onwards however it was Ampleforth who took the lead shortly before half time. We were slow to react to a free hit and Ampleforth worked the ball nicely into the D and picked out a player who was free on the back post to sweep the ball home. The second half became end to end hockey with both sides creating chances on the break. Phoebe Matthews was solid at the back and made some really good tackles and interceptions. Anna Harrison and Lucy Jones battled hard in midfield to repeatedly win the ball back for the team, whilst showing composure when distributing the ball. The only difference between the two sides in the second half was the composure in front of goal. We were wasteful in front of goal and Ampleforth finished off the two big opportunities they had resulting in a final score of 4-1.

FT Result: 4-1 loss PoM: Phoebe Matthews
