Match Report
Yarm School Girls-U16A vs  Various
On: Monday, 04 Dec 2017
Venue: Away

It is the first time we have entered this North Finals at Bradford and this bunch have worked hard at an early training every Tuesday 7.30am in preparation for this tournament.

In the first game we played a very good RGS team who had an England International playing in the middle. We played well and contained her for most of the game though had to defend for large periods of the game. Eventually they scored two and we worked hard not to concede others. To be honest with this being our first game the girls looked nervous. A defeat wasn't the worst news and it meant they couldn't lose again. Giggleswick were the next opponents and we played well beginning to trust our skills which resulted in Evie Clinkard scoring a lovely goal. When Lucy Hattersley scored the second it gave us a cushion however Giggleswick scored in the last 2 minutes to make it more competitive than it needed to be. In the third game v Hymers it was a confident display even when they played a kicking back for the whole game. Once we had sorted tactics we scored 3 good goals, with a penalty corner and penalty flick being confidently put away by captain Olivia Barber. Lucy Hattersley scored her second of the day to finish the game with a 3-0 score line. This set up the last match beautifully with Queen School from Chester who had the smae results as us. So the winner from this match would go through with RGS. To be fair we played very well indeed and looked the part. Naomi played well in goal making light work from the penalty corners and kept them at bay for large periods of the game. Katie Dent was outstanding in this game and Evie Thompson worked the middle with confidence. Much of what we did which was good came through Evie. Sadly Queen played some outstanding hockey and they needed to to beat us. It finished 1-3 which they met Wakefield in the semi final. It was super to include some 3rd years with Alex Webb and Evie Clinkard showing some good touches when on the pitch. Estelle and Paige also had a run out along with Rach MCMurray and Lucy Jones so the squad contributed to the day. The majority of this team will go through to next year and will be a confident group as they are keen to learn and carry on with 7.30am starts next term. A great attitude from them all and lovely company as always.
